Step into the DeLorean, fire up the flux capacitor, and travel back to 2020 on this episode of The Pennsylvania Rock Show Flashback. Host Bill Domiano welcomes Maleena Dominick to revisit a powerful track from her past and explore how her creative journey has expanded beyond music.

In this episode, we head back to the Bruises to Prove It album and spotlight the song “Flashbacks.” Bill and Maleena dive into the story behind the track, discussing the songwriting process, recording experience, and the emotions and influences that shaped the song during that time.

In the second segment, the conversation shifts to the present as Maleena introduces her multimedia project, Steel City Setlist—a deeply personal and cultural exploration of the Pittsburgh music scene. The project includes both a documentary film and a debut book that blends personal narrative, interviews, and research to examine the evolving independent music community.

Steel City Setlist is an autoethnographic work that combines firsthand experience with cultural analysis, featuring insights from over 30 musicians across multiple genres and subscenes. The project highlights the importance of preserving creative spaces in a time of change, while documenting the voices and relationships that continue to shape Pittsburgh’s music culture.

The documentary will premiere at the Mr. Roboto Project on March 22, 2026, followed by an official book release event at The Guitar Shop PGH on April 18, 2026. Maleena also discusses presenting her research at the Northeast Regional Honors Council 2026 Conference, bringing Pittsburgh’s music scene to a broader audience.

As always, this episode features the track “Flashbacks,” connecting the past to the present while showcasing the continued evolution of an artist deeply rooted in the scene.
