Meet The Dead End Streets: Pittsburgh’s New Supergroup PARS731

Join Bill for Episode 731 of the Pennsylvania Rock Show as he introduces you to The Dead End Streets and some of their yet-to-be-released music! Dubbed a “Pittsburgh Supergroup” by Scott Mervis of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Dead End Streets began when singer/songwriter Matt Aquiline returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh after two decades of living and performing in Washington, DC. To bring his sound home, Aquiline assembled a group of musicians with rich histories in the Pittsburgh music scene. The band released their first EP, “Coming Home,” in December 2017. They began collaborating with the horn section “The Weapons of Brass Destruction” (Greg Eggert, Hannah Veri) in 2018 with their holiday release “No Excuse Not To Have a Merry Christmas,” which featured the b-side “Climate Change Christmas.” Continuing their commentary on climate change, The Dead End Streets released the single “Snowball Fight on the 4th of July” in July 2019. They teamed up with The Weapons of Brass Destruction again for the 2020 release “The Time Has Come.” In this release, Catley is joined by legendary Pittsburgh vocalist Stevee Wellons (Soulful Femme) to deliver a powerful soul anthem for change. Their first full LP, “Seems I Survived,” was released on October 7, 2022. Scott Mervis called the title song “a twangy garage-rock anthem for the waning days of the pandemic” and compared The Dead End Streets to the legendary group “The Band.” The title track was also a semifinalist in the Song of the Year songwriting contest. The Dead End Streets blend folk, rock, blues, country, and a touch of blue-eyed soul into roots rock that is authentically Pittsburgh. Their stellar songwriting and exceptional musicianship reflect the depth and authenticity developed through surviving a few cold winters. Tune in to Episode 731 of the Pennsylvania Rock Show to learn more about The Dead End Streets, hear their upcoming music, and dive into their journey and influences.
