Nied’s Hotel Band – 600 Under PARSFB006

Step into the DeLorean, fire up the flux capacitor, and head back in time on this episode of The Pennsylvania Rock Show Flashback. Host Bill Domiano revisits another memorable track from the show’s history and reconnects with the artist behind it to explore how their music and creative process have evolved. Joining Bill for this episode is John Vento of the Nied’s Hotel Band. Together they travel back to 2004 and the release of the band’s album The Nied’s Hotel. John and Bill discuss the making of the record and dive into the story behind the song “600 Hundred Under.” The conversation explores the songwriting process, the recording environment at the time, the production approach used in the early 2000s, and what it was like creating music in that era of the Pittsburgh music scene.

From there, the discussion fast-forwards twenty years to the present. John shares insight into the band’s more recent work, including their 2024 single “We’re In This Together.” They compare how the songwriting, recording, and production process has evolved since the early days of the band, highlighting the differences between creating music in 2004 and in today’s modern recording landscape.

They also do a quick commercial for a great organization that John is involved with, Band Together Pittsburgh, which provides innovative programming, experiences, and vocational opportunities to enhance the lives of those on the autism spectrum.

As always, the episode features both “600 Hundred Under” from the 2004 album The Nied’s Hotel and the more recent single “We’re In This Together,” connecting the band’s past with their present-day sound.
