The Rock for Life 20th Anniversary featured performances by: Safety Last, Farewell Felicia, AmberAlexis, Doppler Affect, Dimwit, The Hellfire Club, Terry Lee Spencer, The Shiners, Lenny Collini 4PaK, Post Traumatik, Black Ridge, The Borstal Boys, Big House Pete, XFACTOR1,After The Fall, & Skell It is the mission of Rock for Life to provide financial support to needy individuals residing in Western PA who are suffering from life threatening diseases. Rock for Life sponsors music festivals and other music-related and general fundraising events to raise the monies necessary to support its purpose. I’ve been working basically since I left the house on Friday to head to the Rock for Life 20th Anniversary! trying to come up with a special way to commemorate this occasion. I started work on the website for this series way back when the first one happened and I believe I have been to 18 of the August Rock for Life shows (and a ton of the other ones, too). This series of events is something that I am truly honored to have a small part in. Matt Ferrante, Steve Craven, and as Matt called them all his best friends put on a great event for an even great cause. I can’t put into words how much I appreciate what they do. I hope my tribute gives anyone who has never been to one of these shows a little bit of an insight into what these shows are about… FAMILY! We did a little on the spot reporting at Iselin Community Park for the Rock for Life 20th Anniversary and this is the podcast and videos that will give you some insight into what the Rock for Life Concert Series really is.

Lots of music and information for you in this episode. I took a moment to talk about the passing of Cliff from KGB. He was an integral part of our scene and he will be missed. I also did a segment that I titled A Wright of Passage. In this segment I featured songs from Step 11, (kaj), and skell. the link between these songs is that Walter Wright sang lead vocals on all of them. You can hear the progression of his vocals and see how he got to where he is now with what I consider to be the best metal band in the Pittsburgh area. You can read a cd review for their “Everything’s Fine” EP on our other site AK Music Scene. They are currently looking for a drummer to finalize their lineup. Commiserating with our esteemed host (OK, it’s just Bill) this week is Gregg Shotts of Tilted Shadows and Post Traumatik. He told us that Tilted Shadows has 4 songs written and are hoping to be recording soon. This brings up their writing process. Gregg told us that sometimes David brings the song to everyone, other times Dave shows up at his place and they work on some of it and then take it to the rest of the band. He also mentioned that Joey sometimes brings new ideas/songs to the band. We then talked about trying to unite the tri-state music scenes and his ideas on what could help make that come to a fruition. We talked about how older talent can help the younger talent and really bring recognition to their bands just through networking. It could also help bands get booked in venues that they normally wouldn’t get added to. We talked about the different bands he has played in since coming to Pennsylvania. He loves playing 90’s style rocking songs, nothing too heavy. He likes the local heavy bands, but doesn’t think he has the stamina to play that style. One interesting story that he brings up has to do with Chelsea, Post Traumatik’s singer, seeing Tilted Shadows play for the first time… but you need to listen to hear why… Get your copy of Tilted Shadow’s Album, Nothing Ventured on CD Baby.
