Rock for Life sponsors music festivals and other music-related and general fundraising events to raise the monies necessary to support its purpose. I’ve been working basically since I left the house on Friday to head to the Rock for Life 20th Anniversary! trying to come up with a special way to commemorate this occasion. I started work on the website for this series way back when the first one happened and I believe I have been to 18 of the August Rock for Life shows (and a ton of the other ones, too). This series of events is something that I am truly honored to have a small part in. Matt Ferrante, Steve Craven, and as Matt called them all his best friends put on a great event for an even great cause. I can’t put into words how much I appreciate what they do. I hope my tribute gives anyone who has never been to one of these shows a little bit of an insight into what these shows are about… FAMILY! Lots of music and information for you in this episode. I took a moment to talk about the passing of Cliff from KGB. He was an integral part of our scene and he will be missed. I also did a segment that I titled A Wright of Passage. In this segment I featured songs from Step 11, (kaj), and skell. the link between these songs is that Walter Wright sang lead vocals on all of them. You can hear the progression of his vocals and see how he got to where he is now with what I consider to be the best metal band in the Pittsburgh area. 3/4ths of Special Reserve (Josh, Adam, & Kubi) joined Bill on the show for the first time. In segment 1, they talked about embarrassing moments on stage, the band name, a little bit about their writing process, and their song Charlene. Segment 2 opens with little more in depth look at the band’s writing process, or the lack thereof. They talk about how their writing process is very fluid and they embrace the chaos. We then talked about their individual music collections to give us an idea of what musicians and bands have formed them as musicians. This question took us off onto a tangent about age and how it affects our radio listening habits…. which then turns into the band harassing Josh about his shoes.
