We did something unusual this week, well actually 2 very unusual things. We had a guest on from a cover band. WHAT!?! As you all know the Pennsylvania Rock Show is about original music. That doesn’t mean that we’re against cover bands, we just can’t play covers on the show. We are also playing 5, yes 5 brand new songs to the show in this episode! Shannon of 2KD joined us to talk about their second annual #SYDSTRONG toy drive. The toy drive is in honor of a past Rock for Life Recipient who has unfortunately, passed. Its their way to keep Syd’s name and soul alive. The show features 7 bands and is Saturday, December 23, 2017. There is a $5 cover (which will be donated to a current RfL Recipient) or you can bring a new unwrapped toy. They toys will be taken to Childrens Hospital and donated to the children there on December 24th. Toys can also be dropped off in advance of the show if you can’t make it at the Sidebar, Polish Falcons, K&S Automotive, Kittanning Collision, and the Pizzeria. Bill was a bit all over the place so many topics were covered during this show, including talking about some other local band members that pop in to support local music at other bands’ shows. We talked about Lady Jaye of First Angel Media and her multi talents of both writing and photography. You should check her out at firstangelmedia.com We also talk about Reina Peli Art & Photography, Dan of GtX Media, We then talked about the Rock for Life Xmas Party which is TONIGHT Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 8pm at the Leechburg Moose. Who is Murder for Girls

We jump into episode 401 by asking about the band name, Murder for Girls. We actually find out about the band name before we even find out their names, we have a great host haha. We then move on to discuss the genre description that they use, melodic garage rock. Like most of our shows we’re all over the place but we get down to brass tacks and find out about the writing process on the new album, All the Pretty Stars. We find out what musicians influence the band through talking about their music collections. Segment 2 starts out with us discussing their CD release show (it happened on 11/11), and the cool venue that they had it at. Redson

On episode 400 of the Pennsylvania Rock Show… Shayman Hurley of the band Redson joined Bill to talk about the upcoming business ahead of the band. They will be playing their first show on December 9, 2017 at the Lincoln Heights Civic Assoc. in Jeanette supporting Shattered the “Blackout Sessions” CD release with Big Atlantic. Shayman gave us an explanation of where the name Redson came from, as well as, the story behind their song Green Goblin. Shayman explains how he became the lead singer of the band and the sound of Redson. In segment 2 we talked about Shayman’s favorite venue, which included a blast from the past. Having not played out in a while, he can’t wait to get out and see what venues are out there to play in. He takes on a bit of trip to past talking about old venues and NIN. Favorite local bands over the years, how to find Redson on the internet (Facebook). Since we had taken a trip down memory lane, we talked about one of my favorite bands from 90’s, Creep. Qball of XFACTOR1 and KnightWolf Concert Promotions joins Bill & his sometimes co-host John “the American Hilljack” Lane of the American Hilljack Files, bringing a bit of the Ohio scene to Pennsylvania this week. We opened up discussing about Pittsburgh being a “dead scene”. We talked about the beginnings of XFACTOR1 and the origin of the band name. We talked about benefit shows and the VIP status of fans at a rock show. Segment 2 began with a discussion of KnightWolf Concert promotions. We discussed everything from the logo, to how the company started. Qball explained how the local bands are treated and how he stands up for the them when dealing with headliners.

On episode 398 of the Pennsylvania Rock Show, Wes Cason of Whitethrash joined me to tell us about his band and their upcoming ventures. We talked about where the band name came from, influences, supporters, how long the band has been together and how the band formed. We talked about sports, too.. well sort of… and where you can get a copy of their newest song, Agonal Breathing which we debut on the show tonight. In the segment, we discussed the exhaust falling off of their van on the way home from Lima, OH. We took some time to talk about some of Whitethrash’s past shows including Wes’ favorite venue. We talked about his favorite local bands. Wes told us about his favorite and least favorite part about the music scene. This is where promoters and pay to play comes up. I talked a little bit about a website that I’m currently working on called www.palocalbands.com. Wes tells you about upcoming shows for Whitethrash and who they’ll be playing with. I mentioned the Pennsylvania Rock Show Anniversary 13 at the Leechburg Moose.

The members of Dead Men from East Stroudsburg, PA join Bill on the show for Episode 396. We began the show by discussing their music style/genres. Rich, Levi, and Kevin give us a bit of an inside look into how the band formed, the band name, and their writing process during the first segment. Dead Men told us about their song Damned, Doomed, & Cursed. Segment 2: We started out learning about Dead Men through asking about the person that supported each of them the most as a musician (we get to learn about Levi’s musical family), what bands and albums are in their music collections, what band would they like to open for and at what venue, what their favorite venue is… we played a short round of “Either or”. We then move onto finding out about their embarrassing stage moments. Shattered – Blackout Sessions – Erik Rhodes

In segment 1: Erik Rhodes, from Shattered, joined to discuss many things in the world of Shattered including their up and coming Album, Blackout Sessions. We discussed the band the Art of Burning Bridges and a former band of some of the members, Fountain Infinity. We debut the song Love/Hate/Obsession on the show. We talk a bit about the song and how it is a “Shattered” version of a love song.  We talked about a show 10 and a half years ago 2/23/2007 when Shattered played live in my living room. We have 2 live tracks from that night in our archives. Erik talked about the recording process that they used for the Blackout Session album. He told us that they had already started writing this album before the last album, Rise of Hypocrisy was released, and that they had started recording the album in October 2014. He told us about some upcoming shows that the band and his acoustic project have coming up. Shattered is opening tomorrow, September 30, 2017 for Lacuna Coil at Diesel. Erik gave us some incite into his influences through telling us about his music collection. In segment 2: Erik told us about the acoustic track, Silhouette, off of the upcoming release, too. We talked a bit about country music!?!?!? We moved on to get Erik’s opinion on pay to play. We talked about what is good about our music scene and even something that Erik believes needs fixed about the scene. We talked about the quality of the musicians in the scene and the Rock for Life Concert Series, as well. I brought up the band Creep, who will be writing new music for the first time in years, you can get a digital copy of their last album by listening for a code in Episode 325 of the Pennsylvania Rock Show. We then discussed the different influences that may have affected the sound of the Blackout Sessions album. I then had Erik tell us his favorite song off of the new disc, his overall favorite Shattered Song, & his favorite cover to play. Erik brought up the band Deadman’s Hand that I’m trying to book, now.

The Crowning

We starting things off making reference to Jack Black…I mean why not? Micah, of The Crowning,  gave us a look into how he became a musician by telling us about how he avoided rock music because his older brothers liked it. He told us about his music collection. Paula Abdul, Vanilla Ice…and a few other questionable albums haha. He cited Nirvana as a very influential band in his musical journey. He also talked about being influenced by Tool, K0rn, System of the Down, Disturbed, STP, Velvet Revolver, and more. Vertigo, no… not U2 but a stage moment that Micah had in his old band. Micah then goes on to tell us about his band mates and how they met, as well as, an odd story about a bass player that responded to his advertisement looking for band members. We talked about the way they’re releasing songs as singles instead of EPs or Albums and why. You really need to hear why, it makes sense to me and I never thought of it. We also took a moment to talk about a that The Crowning will be hosting in Stroudsburg on October 6th. We then talked about their new song “Hard to Find” which you will hear on the show. Don’t forget to join their mailing list, they’ll send you some physical “stuff” in the mail. Lastly we discussed how the band name came about.
