John “The American Hilljack” Lane, front man and lead vocals of the Hellfire Club & John Alfred Lane IV join Bill in the Episode of “Will the Real John Lane Please Stand Up… please stand up… In this episode we learn about John Lane and his doppleganger from another Earth… errr son, Johnny and their musical journey. We learn about Johnny and his band Three Vultures. Bill asks him some of his staple questions (you also get to hear Bill sing part of The Three Little Pigs). Stephen King from Trigger Happy was rearing to go. Guest Co-host John Lane and Bill had to catch up with a late intro. Stephen jumped right into talk about the band’s writing process. The first topic that we covered was song titles. This question came up because of titles like “The Plumber Prevails” and “The Boy Who Lived”.  Stephen was answering Bill and John’s questions before they could even answer them. We talked about his influences. At the beginning of the second part of the interview you get a taste of the conversation that you usually don’t get to hear on the show. Stephen fed off of John pretty well and caused me to leave in some of the “off-air” conversation so that you could understand what was going on haha. You also get to hear us give some props to Utah and Bob of the Grass Roots Show on 97.7 FM. Stephen gives us his take on the Butler Music Scene, as well.

George “Yeti” Ivanusic formerly of Isotope, Impugn, and SuperXero comes out of the darkness and talks about his time in the music scene and what he has been up to since leaving SuperXero. For those of you that don’t know the history, SuperXero was the band that existed just before After the Fall. He talked about playing his first show with Sx opening for LA Guns. He talked about being in a band with John Lane, as well as, the SuperXero EP that the band had created with former bandmate Jared Greece when they were called Hybrid. This was more of a catching up with George than an interview. We touched on a ton of local musicians and their interactions with George over the years. He talked about Mike Palone and Keith Kweder of skell. Yeti talked about learning from Mike when Whiskey High was still together. They talk about how George became the guitarist that he is, Nick Catanese, and more. In the third segment George lets it be known that he is looking to join a band, even if it means being a guitar for hire. Brian Shaffer of the Weekly RockBlog and the Free Peanuts Band came on the show to discuss the movement to unify the tri-state music scenes. He and Bill discussed how the AK Valley Scene is really family and it really wasn’t a competition. The bands use each other as motivation, but not competition. Brian mentioned how hard it used to be to get into venues in Pittsburgh if you weren’t part of a specific clique or had opened for those bands. He also discussed how the venue owners in our area seem to be more open to giving new bands a chance. Bill brings up that it’s harder to over-saturate this area with shows because we live in a more rural area and the venues are spread out a lot more, whereas, in a city there are multiple venues in one block. We discussed how John Lane, of American Hilljack Files, is trying to create something in the Akron scene that is similar to what we have in the AK Valley. Brian Shaffer mentioned a site that he, John & and are running called Podcast your Scene. PYS is a network of podcasts that support local music. I took a moment to point out that we had added the Grass Roots Show to our page. The Grass Roots show is a FM radio show that promotes the local scene on 97.7 The Rock Station. It is at this point that Bill goes off on another tangent to talk about a cool event he, John Lane, & John Klazon (and Trudy) attended this past summer called Corbriwoodstock. This was a new experience for Bill, as it was a more laid back rock show. It was awesome. It was at this point that Mr. Shaffer talked about having a yearly show where bands from the 3 different scenes are featured, but each year the state that it is held in rotates. This would allow the scenes to learn about bands from other scenes. He also mentioned a few experience that he had in the past along the same lines. At this point, Brian Shaffer brings up Al Gomes from Big Noise. One thing that I have always admired about our local music scene is the bands’ willingness to give back to the community through benefit concerts. In this episode, I am joined by special co-host A Pro Radio‘s John “The American Hilljack” Lane. John is not only a staunch supporter of the Akron and Western PA Local Scene’s but he is the front man of Akron’s The Hellfire Club. John has played in a ton of charity shows, so we’ll be using his experience as the background for our show. Zoe’s New Beginnings Zoe’s New Beginnings is a pittsburgh area based non profit organization dedicated to helping parents of premature babies during their first few days at home. We supply the parents with a basket of essential needs. This was created after our daughter, Zoe Joan, was born 8 weeks premature in 2007. We learned along the way the struggles of raising a premature child, and are now making it our mission to help equip future parents for what lies ahead. Zoe is now a healthy 3-year old beautiful, very intelligent little girl, but still deals with problems due to prematurity. If you need someone to help you through this, you are not alone! We want to help YOU in any way we can A Concert for Anna In April 2008, Anna Lee Piroch was diagnosed with cervical cancer. The original Concert For Anna was put together by the local music community, of which Anna was an avid fan, as a way to help her pay her bills while she was unable to work as she battled the disease. Anna knew of the show to be held for her over Labor Day weekend 2008, and looked forward to attending. Sadly, in August 2008, Anna succumbed to the disease… But the music community would not let her spirit die. They came together in an incredibly moving act of kindness and held the show in her honor. When all was said and done, 17 bands had graced the stage that weekend, as well as numerous local businesses donating prizes, etc., and paid for Anna’s funeral expenses. That spirit of generosity and kindness in our local music community lives on in honor of our lost sister Anna, as a continual way to help others in our area in her name. Please help us every Labor Day weekend as we make a difference in someone’s life and ease the struggle that unfortunate circumstances can bring.
